The Pope and 9/11

This is the Pope walking to the 9/11 scene. 

          Pope Francis said to many people grieving over the loss of their loved ones on 9/11, "The name so many loved ones are written around the towers' footprints. We can see them, we can touch them, and we can never forget them." These are very powerful and inspiring words coming from a true man of God. Watching the Pope speak during interviews, I have learned that is a wonderful man. He wants what is best for the country and he does not just see things in black and white, he picks neither side. I think he chooses the gray area. Many people who got interviewed that day about the Pope being present said that he made the area much more peaceful and he offered a sense of relief and hope. He truly is what God had intended him to be and I think more than that. The people adore him and if he brings this much serenity to a place when he is present, then I hope he stays around for a while.

John Boehner

announced his retirement when the Pope Francis came. 

          John Boehner is a man running to become a Republican President for the United States. He is currently a House Speaker for Ohio and what he is promising the American people is to avoid a government shutdown. He also announced on Sunday that he will be leaving office in October. He also told everyone, when the pope came to visit, that he will be doing some "cleaning up before he leaves." To a Republican with a positive outlook on things, it seems that John will be cleaning up things like debt, but according to Huffington Post, it seems almost impossible to clean anything up before he leaves. "He doesn't need to appease his party hardliners, his successor still will," Says Huffington Post. He was the one who invited the Pope to America, being a die-hard Catholic. It was here, on Sunday, that he announced his retirement.

President Obama had a meeting with Xi Jinping to discuss "cyber-theft" issues. It seems that our cyber theft problems are pointing towards China. Obama did come out publicly and say that China's president and him agreed to stop this "cyber-theft" problem. Obama stated that they have both agreed they, "will conduct or knowingly support the cyber-theft of intellectual property, including trade secrets or other confidential business information for commercial advantage." This is a huge step in the right direction towards making connections with China. Like Dr. Chan said in the assembly, she believes that America should be making closer connections with China and I couldn't agree more. The closer we become to China, the better chance we have at becoming extremely successful and helping our national debt.

Campaignin'

This is a picture of the polls for all of the candidates. 

          From reading this interesting article I learned a lot about campaigns! At this stage in the game, the polls are not what matters. The "invisible primary" is the most important part. This is basically the candidates competing for support from other politicians and donors. According to nytimes, whoever wins this wins the party nomination. Why is this? Because it shows promise for their Presidency. Iowa and New Hampshire polls are the next most important thing because these are where people vote first for the President. If you win their votes, you are on the right track. Other things become important to look at as well like, Prediction Markets (traders bet on event outcomes), National Endorsements, and the Money Raised for each candidate. In the picture above, it is a great graphic organizer for who is doing the best in what areas. I can clearly see that Jeb Bush, who I am in favor of, is doing extremely well in the Prediction Markets, National Endorsements and Money Raised, however his competition would be Hilary Clinton who is also doing that well but the leader of the Iowa polls and runner up for the New Hampshire polls.

Fiorina

          Carly Firorina is one of the Republican candidates hoping to become the President of the United States. She was speaking on Oklahoma and was talking on the difference between politics and business and she said that politics is a "fact free zone, people just say things." MSNBC makes a comment about her statement, "The irony was almost overwhelming [...] she has an unfortunate habit of saying things that aren't true." MSNBC provides an example, Carly was in a debate and kept claiming that her statement she made on Planned Parenthood was true, when it was obviously not true at all. When she was pressed for evidence, her team tried to come up with things, but these didn't make sense either. So, what I gather from this is that Carly is either a bad liar, doesn't know what she is talking about, or she doesn't care to know what she is talking about. My mom really likes her, but my mom doesn't follow politics at all. I think my mom enjoys the idea of a woman becoming president and how cool that would be, but she doesnt understand that Fiorina is not as put together as most would think.
